Start the Relay

Set up the Relay

Aim: To set up and charge the Relay to enable it to automatically connect with and download data periodically from the AnnoLogs.

When you receive the Relay, a USB C cable is included. In the spirit of recycling, we do not include a battery charger.

Please recycle one of the many phone chargers we typically have lying around.  If you don't have a spare, please let us know and we'll send you one.

The Relay communicates via the cellular network.
Please make sure to use a charger with a rating of at least 500 mA or 0.5 Amp.
Most phone chargers supplied from 2010 are rated at this level and above.

  1. Place the Relay in the vicinity of where the AnnoLogs are deployed.
  2. Plug the USB cable into the Relay, connect the cable to a USB charger that is plugged into a mains power outlet.

Charge the Relay

When you first connect the Relay to a power source, the signal will initially flash green and turn solid within a few minutes if a cellular signal is available. The power status will flash green for a few hours while the battery is charging.

What does do those colours mean?

Signal status
Solid green = Good cellular signal.
Flashing green = Poor cellular signal. Operation may be affected.
Solid red = No signal. No operation possible.

Power status
Solid green = USB power is connected and battery is fully charged.
Flashing green = USB power is connected and battery is charging. This usually takes between 2 and 8 hours depending on the current rating of the charger.
Flashing red = USB power is not connected and the backup battery is powering the Relay (lasts 12 hours).
Solid red = USB power is disconnected and the battery is low and when it has used up its energy reserve, it will shut down.

All done!
